This crab exhibits both “fight” and “flight” responses in an attempt to save himself and friends from becoming dinner
In situations of pending death, there are two possible courses of action for human or beast—either accept fate or fight like hell to survive. This is known as the “fight or flight” response. Neither response is the “correct” course of action, and a person will never know how they’ll react until their backs are against the wall.
Or in this case, their shell is in some hot water.
This crab did a little bit of both fight and flight and almost saved his own life and the lives of his crustacean compadres. We’re saying “almost” because we’re assuming the person filming dropped the little escape artist right back into the pot when the camera stopped rolling.
Captured in Lianyungang in Jiangsu Province, north of Shanghai, earlier this month, this clever crab was able to crawl out of a boiling hot pan and turn off the burner in an attempt to save himself and his pals or maybe just prevent them from over-cooking.
