A woman has ballooned to a staggering 364 pounds and is now going blind after drinking 28 cans of Red Bull energy drink every day.
Lena Lupari splashes out almost $9,000 every year on the high energy drink, but now wants the NHS to pay for a ‘bootcamp’ so she can shed the pounds.
“I don’t want a gastric band or surgery but I think they should offer help for someone with this and to motivate them – something like a boot camp,” she said.
The 26-year-old, from Newtonabbey in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, saw her weight balloon and as a result she has developed Idiopathic intracranial hypertension, a condition that can lead to people losing their sight.
Lupari claims she would down up to 28 cans of the drink while caring for her three young children, one of who has special needs.
She told how she frequently ignored headaches and just took painkillers, until one day she ended up in hospital for six days, unable to raise her head off the bed and her vision went.
After receiving treatment in hospital, Lupari was told she must lose seven stone to keep symptoms of the condition at bay. She has since stopped drinking Red Bull and has lost 28 pounds in weight.
“Losing the weight doesn’t mean it will go away forever but it means I won’t need surgery,” she told MailOnline
Red Bull was launched in 1987 and has since turned its founder, Dietrich Mateschitz, into a billionaire.
