A new study has found that eating a banana right before bedtime works the best for the body. A banana works as the perfect antidote for insomnia with its sleep-boosting power. The tropical fruit contains tryptophan, an amino acid that is not produced by the body and has to be supplied externally, ie, via this fruit.
This amino acid helps the body produce serotonin, that is responsible for regulating sleep. Serotonin is a natural anti-depressant that can treat not just insomnia, but other multiple mood issues such as anxiety, fatigue, agitation, irritability, and anger.
That’s not all! According to a 2012 study published in the Journal of Pineal Research, eating bananas leads to an increase in serum melatonin, the hormone that controls a person’s sleep-wake cycle. These researchers found that eating two bananas a day increased the serum melatonin level by 0.14 mg. An increase of 0.10 mg of melatonin can help a person fall asleep quickly and get a sound sleep through the night.
Bananas are also packed with muscle-relaxing minerals. These yellow fruits contain potassium and magnesium, that are responsible for relaxing tensed muscles, ultimately helping you sleep better. Bananas also help a person reduce the urge to give in to cravings post midnight.
So the next time you find yourself tossing and turning in bed, unable to fall asleep, forget counting sheep and eat a banana instead.
Bananas are loaded with fiber, that slow down digestion and keep you full for a longer time. This will prevent you from having any midnight craving and give you a peaceful night’s sleep.
Banana is a fiber-rich food which lowers the risk of both cardiovascular diseases as well as coronary heart diseases.
3. Nutrients galore
Bananas are loaded with essential vitamins and minerals such as potassium, calcium, manganese, magnesium, iron, folate, niacin, riboflavin, and B6, which contribute to the proper functioning of the body.
The potassium in bananas helps in regulating heartbeat, blood pressure, and keeps the brain alert.
5. Fights anemia
Bananas are especially good for people suffering from anemia due to the high iron content as they help fight fatigue, paleness, and shortness of breath.
