Death threats. Hacked emails. “Twitter bombs.” Dr. Wen has experienced all of it. But why has she been attacked so thoroughly? Because she advocates for full transparency in medicine. She believes that all doctors should have to disclose how they were educated, how they’re paid, and any potential conflicts of interest in terms of who they’re medicating with what and how they might benefit from it.
“Being totally transparent is scary. You feel naked, exposed, and vulnerable. But when doctors are willing to step off our pedestals, take off our white coats, and show our patients who we are and what medicine is all about. That’s when we begin to overcome the sickness of fear.”
