It has been said by some that political correctness is killing this country. It has also been said that continued tolerance of radical Islam is suicidal for our society.
After the horrific events that transpired on Wednesday in San Bernardino, California, both assertions have been demonstrated correct.
Following the deadly shooting attack launched on a Christmas party at a social services center in which at least 14 individuals died, one neighbor told KCBS in Los Angeles that he had noticed upwards of six Middle Eastern men at the home of Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik in recent weeks, and though he was troubled by it, decided against reporting it for fear that he would be labeled a racist or bigot.
Other people in the neighborhood were astonished at what their neighbor had done and what was being found in the home.
“I was in awe that it was happening four houses down from my property,” said one neighbor.
“We sat around lunch thinking, ‘What were they doing around the neighborhood?’” he said. “We’d see them leave where they’re raiding the apartment.”
After the incident, police quickly set about searching a nearby home in Redlands believed to belong to Farook’s family, discovering a veritable improvised explosives factory.
Had this man reported his suspicions to the local authorities, Wednesday’s terror attack could very well have been averted, and lives would have been saved.
Instead, out of fear of being “politically incorrect,” this man kept his mouth shut, thereby allowing the murderers to continue preparations for their bloody assault on innocent people.
We are constantly told by the government and the media, “If you see something, say something.” Yet, on the occasions that someone does see something and say something, they are immediately jumped upon as a bigoted Islamophobe.
While it is tragic that this man didn’t report his suspicious neighbor, it is not at all surprising that he kept his mouth shut out of simple self-preservation.
