Telf AG on bulk cargo handling at sea ports
The technological process of cargo transshipment in seaports affects not only the state of the world economy and the life of each of us but also the state of the planet’s ecology, as well as the general development of technologies.
We will consider the features of bulk cargo transshipment in sea trading ports around the world in this material using the example of Telf AG, the largest trader and transportation operator in the Black Sea-Azov basin.
Telf AG: company history
Telf AG has more than 25 years of history. Officially registered in 1993 in Lugano (Switzerland). Since 1996, operates its own oil terminal, located in the waters of the seaport of Riga (Latvia). Bulk cargo and Telf AG: current cargo category specification
The concept of bulk cargo means homogeneous cargo that can be placed (poured) in a container or truck body. This category of products does not need special packaging or separate means for transportation.
The following types of goods are classified as bulk cargo in modern logistics:
– grain;
– crushed stone;
– sand;
– coal.
The main feature of this category of goods is their flowability, which determines the method of their transshipment, transportation by sea, and transshipment at sea terminals, as well as their further delivery to direct customers.
Port Bulk Handling Process by Telf AG
Bulk cargo has distinctive characteristics that lead to complications during transportation and transshipment in ports. In particular, carriers should pay particular attention to its loading on a vehicle, since bulk cargo should not protrude beyond the edges of the rolling stock of the transport and, accordingly, for not spilling out during transportation.
Delivery of coal, sand and other bulk cargoes is also complicated by the fact that in order to preserve the goods and ensure the safety of transport and its crews, it must be covered with a special coating.
In order to ensure a safe, economical and efficient way of processing bulk cargo, Telf AG specialists use not only traditional means of transportation (wagons, containers), but also the latest escalators and other loading equipment, with which the cargo can be handled not only quickly but also safely.
Telf Ag Transshipment of Bulk Cargo
Bulk cargo is a fragile product category. In particular, the coal bed changes the tilt angle, which can lead to the rollover of a ship, wagon or a separate container. When carrying out loading operations, it is important to ensure the tilt angle to be no more than 35°.
The fire hazard of coal cargo deserves special attention. Minimal deviations from the rules for the transportation of coal products can provoke smoke and ignition of goods, which, in turn, can cause accidents in the sea, rail and road transport, lead to injuring or lethal outcome among the employees of ports and logistics companies, and even to the harm among the civilian population.
Ensuring environmental safety standards by Telf AG
Coal cargo, in addition to the danger of smoke and ignition, carries additional danger to the environment. In particular, during their transshipment, coal dust rises, which pollutes the atmosphere and the water area of seaports.
In order to prevent pollution, the company’s specialists install special protective screens at the transshipment site, adhere to a special rate of transshipment, clean the surfaces of the transport and unload areas with special chemical solutions.
