What would you do if you thought you could hear a sound of distress, but had no idea where it was coming from or what exactly it was? What if you looked everywhere, and there was absolutely no feasible location where the sounds could be coming from? But what if the cries for help remained persistent? You might think to yourself that you’re just imagining it; it was all in your mind, there’s no way someone would be trying to get your attention, if there was literally nowhere they could be hiding.
If you’re completely alone when you hear such distressing cries for help, it’s pretty easy just to dismiss them as a figment of your imagination, and leave the scene to simply go about your day. However, if you were with a group of people, and everyone was hearing the exact same thing, then you wouldn’t be able to simply ignore it. This is exactly what happened on one supposedly ordinary day in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Learn how a group of locals over there decided to take action when they heard some noises that simply couldn’t be ignored. When they investigated further, they found something truly unthinkable…
Visitors at a cultural center in Araras, Brazil were sure they could hear noises from somewhere in the surrounding area, but had no idea where or what it was. They looked around, and tried desperately to locate the direction that the sounds were coming from, but they couldn’t. That is, until someone in the group decided it was most likely coming from beneath the ground! That’s when they knew they had to take action…
Suddenly, the sounds started becoming louder and louder. However, the group still weren’t totally sure what it was, all they knew, was that they sounded like cries for help, but they could quite literally have been anything…
As the sounds grew more intense, the group became increasingly concerned! In fact, they were also starting to feel a little afraid – there are all sorts of exotic and dangerous creatures in Brazil that could possibly manage to find their way underground. What if it was one of these creatures? Could it possibly be a poison dart frog? There are are a number of these in Brazil, and their venom is lethal. There was no telling what this unknown thing underneath the floor could be…
The Sao Paulo locals didn’t know what to do! They had just come to Araras for the exact same reason so many others before them had come to Araras – to visit the arts and culture facility over there…
If the group tried to get whatever it was out from underneath the floor, would they regret it? Eventually, the group managed to find a way to break into the floor, but itwasn’t as easy as simply finding a drill. Before this, they pleaded for help from those who should have been able to do something about it, but chose not to…
The noises that were heard from beneath the floor went on for much longer than anyone expected…
A whole week after the supposed cries for help were first heard, they continued to spook people! What made it all the more sinister was the fact that no-one, not one single person had any idea what it could be. It was a total mystery. A mystery that one very special group of visitors hoped that they could solve. And eventually, against all odds, they did. The first thing they did was contact the officials, it was the officials’ responsibility to help, or at least that’s what the locals thought…
The group of locals were very alarmed at what they were hearing. There was no doubt that something wasn’t quite right, which is why they contacted the officials, but what the officials had to say in response was shocking…
When someone in the group let the officials know about the distressing cries for help, the officials were reluctant to help. They hadn’t been there to witness what the visitors had experienced, they had no idea how alarming and sinister it was. The officials told the group in no uncertain terms to ignore what it was they had heard, and just pretend they hadn’t heard it. But why would they tell the concerned locals that? Why didn’t they want to help?
The locals were very upset by what the officials had told them. They were completely neglecting their duties…
Unfortunately, the locals had to accept that the officials simply didn’t care enough to make sure everything was alright, although they really should have. There was now only one thing for it, they had to solve the mystery entirely on their own. Of course, they weren’t completely alone – they had each other! They all decided to work together to get to the bottom of the distressingly unidentifiable sounds. And that meant digging the hell out of that floor!
The visitors had traced the sounds to the outside part of the cultural center, and they were definitely coming from far beneath the ground’s surface…
Initially, they thought they’d be alright with a shovel. How hard could it be? However, they soon realized it wouldn’t be that easy! Fortunately, there happened to be some utility workers in the surrounding area, and they were armed with a jackhammer. Using their handy jackhammer, they began drilling a hole into the ground. What they eventually found shocked them to the core…
The locals, who were simply a group of ordinary people, were so grateful that the utility workers were taking time out of their day to help them get to the bottom of this increasingly eerie mystery…
Although the utility workers were very happy to help, they were worried that if they dug too hard and fast, they would harm whatever it was that was trapped beneath the ground, and that was the very last thing they wanted to do. Therefore, the workers made sure they dug as carefully as they possibly could. When they found what it was that was lurking beneath the ground, they couldn’t be any gladder that they had taken such precautions.
The kind utility workers had dug and dug until there wasn’t much left to dig. They and the group of locals hoped they would now be able to identify what it was that was making these distressing noises…
The drilling they had done had left a large amount of rubble, which they proceeded to push to one side so that they had a chance to look inside the hole. It was very, very dark inside the hole, but they felt that if there was something in it, they definitely would have been able to see it, yet… they saw nothing! But there had to be something down there! By now the noises had completely stopped, but what did this mean?
They all wondered how it was even possible that there was nothing inside the hole… Then they heard the noises again – there was DEFINITELY something down there!
The workers were now more determined than ever to help! The fact that they couldn’t even see what was making these alarming noises meant that it would be trickier than they thought to get… it, or them, or him, or her out of the hole.
The second hole was very close to the drain pipe so the workers took extra care to not to damage anything. This made their attempt to discover the contents of the hole a lot more laborious.
After a while of drilling, fiddling around and pushing their ears up close to the hole, it was now blindingly obvious that the noises were coming from inside the pipe…
The workers decided there was only one thing for it – they had to remove a section of the pipe so that they could remove whatever it was that was making these pitiful sounds!
It took a little while, but they managed to remove the section of the pipe where they heard the heart-wrenching sounds…
They now had perfect access to be able to retrieve the unknown victims. One of the workers took it upon himself to be the one to take out the contents of the pipe. It was something he wasn’t expecting at all! Yes, he thought, as they all did, that it would be some kind of creature, but they had no idea that something like this could get trapped in an underground pipe…
It was a kitten! A tiny, defenseless, little kitten that had somehow managed to get trapped in a pipe underground…
The kitten was so small and fragile – they dreaded to think about how it must have suffered all that time. It was underground for over a week, in a cramped little space. And it was all alone. At least that’s what they thought, until they found something else lurking within the pipe…
When the worker examined further, he saw that there was another kitten in the pipe! It was all curled up and petrified.
When the second kitten was pulled out, the group gave it a little round of applause. Both kittens had been so brave; what they must have gone through is unthinkable.
After the revelation, that there had been two little kittens trapped in a pipe, the group thought that nothing could shock them now, until…
There were even more kittens! Now there were four in total. The group were in awe – how was it possible that four kittens could end up trapped in a pipe underground, and still survive a week later?
The group of locals and the utility workers didn’t know whether to jump for joy or feel pity for the creatures! They were only babies…
What the kittens must have suffered is unthinkable! And to think it could all have been avoided if the officials had actually listened and tried to help. Fortunately, the kittens seemed to be doing well despite what they’d been through. However, the group continued to wonder how they even got there in the first place…
Where was the kittens’ mom? Had she abandoned them? There was no way she would have been able to fit in the pipe with all her kittens…
What most likely happened was that the kittens’ mom had given birth to her kittens on the roof of the cultural center, and somehow the kittens fell into the gutter and slid down the drainpipe. It was all just an accident!
