Folk remedies have been around a long time for a very good reason– they work! Here is another for the folks:

CINNAMON & HONEY

Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. It will do what some call turning to sugar.  Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. To do so will kill the enzymes in the honey. Make sure your honey is untreated and unprocessed and not heated. This will have the greatest benefit. Caution honey is a form of sugar so too much honey of any kind is not good for the body. But a little bit will help some of the following conditions. And the Cinnamon should be organic. Chinese medicine says it is warming and nourishing for the Kidneys.

Cinnamon and honey each have properties with the potential to improve your health.

Cinnamon is an antioxidant and it may help balance blood sugar, while honey fights bacteria. The vibrant spice contributes fiber, honey supplies sugar for energy and their combined flavors make the perfect spread for toast or muffins.Cinnamon powder, or ground cinnamon, is made from the bark of the Cinnamomum tree. Honey originates as nectar from flowers, which is collected by bees, broken down into simple sugars by enzymes in the bees’ stomachs and then spread onto the honeycomb, where its water evaporates to produce thick honey. It consists of the sugars fructose and glucose. One teaspoon of cinnamon has 6 calories and 2 grams of carbohydrates. You’ll get 21 calories and 6 grams of total carbohydrates from 1 teaspoon of honey. All of the carbohydrates in honey are sugar, while those in cinnamon are mostly fiber. You’ll get 1.4 grams of fiber, or 4 percent of men’s and 6 percent of women’s recommended daily intakes of fiber from 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

Cinnamon and Honey for Blood Pressure

One tablespoon of honey contains 1 percent of your recommended daily intake of copper, manganese and vitamin B-6. Barely a trace of nutrients remains in 1 teaspoon. If you eat 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, you will get 1 to 8 percent of your daily intake of 12 nutrients. But when the serving size is reduced to 1 teaspoon, a measurable amount of only four nutrients remains: iron, calcium, manganese and vitamin K.
Cinnamon is such a strong spice that you’re more likely to consume 0.5 teaspoon in one serving, which would supply 1 percent of your daily intake of calcium and iron and 10 percent of manganese.
Cinnamon contains antioxidant flavonoids and essential oils that have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It may help balance blood sugar and treat Type 2 diabetes by mimicking insulin’s ability to move glucose out of the bloodstream and into cells. A study published in the November 2012 issue of the “Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics” reported that consuming 6 grams of ground cinnamon together with farina cereal moderated the cereal’s effect on blood sugar. Eating 1 to 6 grams daily may lower blood glucose in people who have Type 2 diabetes, according to the Pennington Biomedical Research Center.
Honey has one proven benefit: it stops the growth of bacteria. When used topically, it may help heal wounds and minor burns. It’s often reported to relieve sore throats and may treat swollen gums.
Honey is sometimes touted for its ability to treat high cholesterol and high blood pressure, but its safety and effectiveness have not been proven to date, according to MayoClinic.com. As a treatment for coughs, it may work better than some, but not all, over-the-counter cough medications, according to a review published in March 2012 by the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. Infants younger than 12 months should never consume honey because they’re vulnerable to infant botulism.
