Most people don’t like to stay in the hospital, and for good reason! It’s not what anyone would call their “happy place.” No one wants to be reminded that they’re not well.
But when your doctor tells you that you need to have an operation, that’s when the dread usually starts to set in. Surgery can be a terrifying experience for everyone – especially children.
One little boy got the shock of his life after he woke up from his surgery. Even his parents didn’t know that the doctor had something up his sleeve.
When an anonymous little boy underwent the knife at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, no one suspected that he would wake up with a new and improved best friend. A kind doctor at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin saw fit to make sure that the boy’s best friend got the urgent care that he desperately needed – free of charge!
“After performing surgery on a young boy, Dr. Groth made the extra effort to perform an additional surgery on the boy’s best friend – his stuffed animal. Our doctors, nurses and staff go out of their way to make sure every child feels comfortable and safe. Whether it’s stitching up their favorite toy or dressing up as their favorite character, we know how to make children feel better.”
His parents were in total shock – it’s no surprise it’s gone viral.
This wouldn’t be the first time that Dr. Groth has performed a bit of charity work on behalf of his happy patients. In fact, Kate Kaddatz was thrilled when she saw this photo, because she finally found the culprit that mysteriously patched up her son’s stuffed animal during a recent hospital visit.
“Oh my goodness!! It must have been him who stitched up my son’s pillow pet monkey while we were there to see Dr. Groth last month!! He went in with duct tape on him (because stuffing was falling out and this mama doesn’t know how to sew!). I noticed when we got home that the monkey was stitched up!! Thank you so much, Dr. Groth!! That really meant a lot that you took the time to go the extra mile!!”
Michelle Grohoski added:
“When my daughter was at children’s for getting her broken leg set. Her stuffed animal also came out with a cast on his leg.”
Awww, this super cheeky doctor is also super sweet! What kid wouldn’t love a best friend that has undergone the same “surgery” they have?
Dr. Groth’s talents don’t just stop with surgery. He also knows how to work an X-ray machine. When Elmo was having some trouble with feeling very ticklish, the good doctor saw fit to have a look inside!
“Yup they did an x-ray on Elmo…( yes this was ten years ago…with actual FILM! LOL) and we still have it!”
Maybe the doctor was was able to discover the source of Elmo’s infectious giggling sound?
When Holly Decker Lamb’s daughter went in for cochlear ear surgery, so did her best girlfriend!

These surgical makeovers are so clever and adorable. Kudos to Dr. Groth for thinking outside the box when it comes to being a creative healer!
The Cookie Monster also got the royal treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Tami Doyle says:
“My daughter had brain surgery and so did Cookie Monster.”
I wonder if he can still eat cookies while he’s in the hospital? Coooookies!
Dr. Groth may have gone to medical school to learn how to mend human bodies. But, somewhere along the way he learned how to heal a child’s heart.
