A video has surfaced depicting a purported wedding between a 12-year-old girl and an 80-year-old man. Although both the date and the location of origin are unknown, it is clear that the video originated in an Arabic-speaking country.
Regardless, where it’s from isn’t as important as what it depicts. The “bride,” clearly a terrified child, sits dressed in lace and satin as the “groom” is welcomed into the room by a gaggle of black-clad women, who likely were forced into the same cruel fate themselves as children.
As the fossil climbed onto the bed with the girl, cameras snapped everywhere. The poor child never looked up. She had likely been sold to the highest bidder, given away to settle a dispute or married off to seal a family alliance.
In the Muslim world, a man entering her bedroom would occur only after the marriage ceremony, so apparently they’ve all gathered to celebrate the poor child being raped. Watch the video here:
Its founder and prophet Muhammad allegedly married a 6-year-old, then consummated the marriage when she was nine. He instructed his followers in the Quran that marrying young girls was desirable in order to keep them from sexual impurity.
Some Muslim and other non-Western groups promote female genital mutilation, which causes the victims lifelong pain, health problems and sexual dysfunction. Child marriage robs girls of their childhood, sells them into lifelong servitude and perpetuates a generational cycle of oppression.
According to UNICEF, 39,000 children are forced into marriage every day. Child brides are often beaten and have a stunningly high childbirth mortality rate, with pregnancy and childbirth complications being the leading cause of death for underage girls.
Think that Western culture is slowly ending this barbaric practice? Think again. Child marriage is on the rise worldwide. The United Kingdom and Canada have seen dramatic increases as their Muslim populations rise and judges bow to Shariah law, according to The Toronto Sun.
While the “live and let live” liberals soft-pedal Islam as equal to Western cultures, let’s remember that the extension of Western culture is all the hope these girls have for any kind of a life at all. Feminists should be ashamed of themselves for remaining silent.
