Google Maps is truly one of the wonders of the modern age. It has the ability to get a vantage point on the world that we simply can’t get.
It has in-depth shots of just about every single place on the globe – although there are some exceptions – and also has the ability to help us get to where we need to go.
Sure, it has the ability to catch you picking your nose or partaking in some sordid activity or other down a side street, but it’s largely a force for good in the world.
Sometimes, however, it throws something at us that we can’t explain. No, it’s not the gigantic dick-shaped markings that sometimes appear on roofs, or strangely close to school fields – sometimes the findings of the satellite mapping system are genuinely baffling.
On this occasion, a huge underwater mass has been discovered lurking just off the coast of Greece. So far, nobody can be quite sure exactly what it is.
It’s a large circular blob underneath the Aegean Sea, not too far from the Greek city of Thessaloniki. It’s got a smaller circle inside it, giving it the impression of a gigantic underwater nipple.
The person who discovered it, known only by the username Underbelly, posted a video of his find on the Disclose.tv website.
He said: “This USO was spotted in The Aegean Sea off the coast of Greece and here are the Coordinates 40°27’4.62″ 22°51’39.78” so you guys can check it out for yourself.
“I did also take some measurements using the ruler on google earth and this object is of 220 feet long.”
That is pretty large, and it looks pretty man-made as well. But what the hell is it? Short answer: nobody really knows.
Several people have suggested that it might be a volcanic cone, left behind after some eruption or other. There are a few volcanos in Greece, but most of them haven’t gone off for a good while, which would mean that it’s been there for a fair bit.
Why has nobody found it before now then? Were we simply waiting for Google Maps to exist?
Or are THEY hiding something from us? Yes, that has to be it. THEY are always hiding something from us.
Others have suggested that it could be some old building, such as a lighthouse. It is close to the shore, after all. It could be the foundations of an old beacon to ward ships from their doom.
But surely there would be a record of this if there was a lighthouse there?
The upshot of all of this is that we simply have no idea what it is. But that’s OK, everyone loves a mystery.
The truth is out there, people.
