There is less faith now in the public education system than there ever has been. Homeschooling has increased by 75 percent in the last 14 years, according to a recent report in Education News. Homeschooling is growing seven times faster than a K-12 public education. Researchers predict that the homeschooling boom will continue to explode over the next 10 years, as parents seek to provide their son/daughter with a better education, one that is less controlling and less controlled.

Now seeing that the federal government's no child left behind act has made public education into a factory line, more parents are finding alternative educations at home. As the government continues to intrude, it will be wise for parents to take a closer look at the looming common core standards that states are now adopting from the Obama Administration. These standards do even more damage, seeking to turn students and their emotions into stored, traceable data, using data mining techniques.

Regurgitating information and coloring in bubbles

The onslaught of government programs and standardized testing has rendered students just mere statistics in a database. Many parents feel like their child has become just another brick in the wall. The National Assessment of Educational Progress reports that the No Child Left behind Act did nothing over the last decade but pressure a narrow curriculum onto schools, a curriculum that taught straight to the tune of state testing guidelines. The subsequent inflated test scores never proved that real learning had improved, but instead created a brainwashing system. This standardized system has stunted creativity in children, scolded skepticism, herded achievement, and reigned in competition to an equal yoke, as kids learn nothing more than how to regurgitate information and color in a bubble.

Turning your children into a traceable number in a database

As government is continually looked to as the answer for education, new Common Core standards are being coerced into each state's public education system. These uniform standards make the No Child Left Behind Act look like a small appetizer. Common core goes deeper than standardized education. It seeks to turn children into digitized pets tied to a surveillance leash. In fact, Common Core standards reveal data mining techniques, which will record and log a student's facial expressions and reactions through iris and other biometric scans implemented through sensors on school computers.

Although common core looks like a state initiated plan, the program was actually coerced onto the states through a $4 billion grant from Obama's Race to the Top program. The federal government, run by controlling surveillance freaks, has effectively lassoed state support. There's an exception to that rule, though - Missouri. Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer from Missouri has recently wrote a letter to the US Department of Education, addressing several issues with the new Common Core standards.

"We understand that as a condition of applying for [Race to the Top] grant funding, states obligated themselves to implement a State Longitudinal Database System (SLDS) used to track students by obtaining personally identifiable information," Luetkemeyer said. "We formally request a detailed description of each change to student privacy policy that has been made under your leadership, including the need and intended purpose for such changes."

The Department of Education applauds the data mining techniques, saying in its February 2013 report, "Researchers are exploring how to gather complex affective data and generate meaningful and usable information to feed back to learners, teachers, researchers, and the technology itself. Connections to neuroscience are also beginning to emerge."

Nine states have already complied to this new technology, which goes farther than eyeballing student test scores. Students' personal information, including behavior and reactions are being sent to a database managed by In Bloom, Inc., which is a privately funded organization started by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Benefits of homeschooling

An Education News report actually shows that home schooled children ultimately attain four year degrees at much higher rates than publicly enrolled students. As a matter of fact, some of the top colleges in the US, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard, Stanford, and Duke University avidly recruit homeschooled children. Homeschooled children aren't as socially inept as what others stigmatize. In fact, homeschooled children complete their work faster at home and have more time for community, church, and neighborhood social activities. Family values and character, the most overlooked part of an education, are taught much more strongly from home, making homeschooled children more respectful, higher achieving, and beneficial members of the community. Furthermore, most public schools spend very limited time on three other very important life skills - proper nutrition, hands on skills, and entrepreneurship. These skills are passed on well in a home school environment.

All in all, homeschooling is on the rise as parents "wake up" to the reality that a public education has become nothing more than a watered down, standardized, brainwashing, data mining pool that sells their kids, brick by brick, up the crick for a lousy government granted paycheck.

Bank of America’s mortgage servicing unit systematically lied to homeowners, fraudulently denied loan modifications, and paid their staff bonuses for deliberately pushing people into foreclosure: Yes, these allegations were suspected by any homeowner who ever had to deal with the bank to try to get a loan modification – but now they come from six former employees and one contractor, whose sworn statements were added last week to a civil lawsuit filed in federal court in Massachusetts.

“Bank of America’s practice is to string homeowners along with no apparent intention of providing the permanent loan modifications it promises,” said Erika Brown, one of the former employees. The damning evidence would spur a series of criminal investigations of BofA executives, if we still had a rule of law in this country for Wall Street banks.

The government’s Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP), which gave banks cash incentives to modify loans under certain standards, was supposed to streamline the process and help up to 4 million struggling homeowners (to date, active permanent modifications number about 870,000). In reality, Bank of America used it as a tool, say these former employees, to squeeze as much money as possible out of struggling borrowers before eventually foreclosing on them. Borrowers were supposed to make three trial payments before the loan modification became permanent; in actuality, many borrowers would make payments for a year or more, only to find themselves rejected for a permanent modification, and then owing the difference between the trial modification and their original payment. Former Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner famously described HAMP as a means to “foam the runway” for the banks, spreading out foreclosures so banks could more readily absorb them.

These Bank of America employees offer the first glimpse into how they pulled it off. Employees, many of whom allege they were given no basic training on how to even use HAMP, were instructed to tell borrowers that documents were incomplete or missing when they were not, or that the file was “under review” when it hadn’t been accessed in months. Former loan-level representative Simone Gordon says flat-out in her affidavit that “we were told to lie to customers” about the receipt of documents and trial payments. She added that the bank would hold financial documents borrowers submitted for review for at least 30 days. “Once thirty days passed, Bank of America would consider many of these documents to be ‘stale’ and the homeowner would have to re-apply for a modification,” Gordon writes. Theresa Terrelonge, another ex-employee, said that the company would consistently tell homeowners to resubmit information, restarting the clock on the HAMP process.

Worse than this, Bank of America would simply throw out documents on a consistent basis. Former case management supervisor William Wilson alleged that, during bimonthly sessions called the “blitz,” case managers and underwriters would simply deny any file with financial documents that were more than 60 days old. “During a blitz, a single team would decline between 600 and 1,500 modification files at a time,” Wilson wrote. “I personally reviewed hundreds of files in which the computer systems showed that the homeowner had fulfilled a Trial Period Plan and was entitled to a permanent loan modification, but was nevertheless declined for a permanent modification during a blitz.” Employees were then instructed to make up a reason for the denial to submit to the Treasury Department, which monitored the program. Others say that bank employees falsified records in the computer system and removed documents from homeowner files to make it look like the borrower did not qualify for a permanent modification.

Senior managers provided carrots and sticks for employees to lie to customers and push them into foreclosure. Simone Gordon described meetings where managers created quotas for lower-level employees, and a bonus system for reaching those quotas. Employees “who placed ten or more accounts into foreclosure in a given month received a $500 bonus,” Gordon wrote. “Bank of America also gave employees gift cards to retail stores like Target or Bed Bath and Beyond as rewards for placing accounts into foreclosure.” Employees were closely monitored, and those who didn’t meet quotas, or who dared to give borrowers accurate information, were fired, as was anyone who “questioned the ethics … of declining loan modifications for false and fraudulent reasons,” according to William Wilson.

Bank of America characterized the affidavits as “rife with factual inaccuracies.” But they match complaints from borrowers having to resubmit documents multiple times, and getting denied for permanent modifications despite making all trial payments. And these statements come from all over the country from ex-employees without a relationship to one another. It did not result from one “rogue” bank branch.

Simply put, Bank of America didn’t want to hire enough staff to handle the crush of loan modification requests, and used these delaying tactics as a shortcut. They also pushed people into foreclosure to collect additional fees from them. And after rejecting borrowers for HAMP modifications, they would offer an in-house modification with a higher interest rate. This was all about profit maximization. “We were regularly drilled that it was our job to maximize fees for the Bank by fostering and extending delay of the HAMP modification process by any means we could,” wrote Simone Gordon in her affidavit.

It is a testament to the corruption of the federal regulatory and law enforcement apparatus that we’re only hearing evidence from inside Bank of America now, in a civil class-action lawsuit from wronged homeowners, when the behavior was so rampant for years. For example, the Treasury Department, charged with specific oversight for HAMP, didn’t sanction a single bank for failing to follow program guidelines for three years, and certainly did not uncover any of this criminal conduct. Steven Cupples, a former underwriter at Bank of America, explained in his statement how the bank falsified records to Treasury to make it look like they granted more modifications. But Treasury never investigated. Meanwhile, the Justice Department joined with state Attorneys General and other federal regulators to essentially bless this conduct in a series of weak settlements that incorporated other bank crimes as well, like “robo-signing” and submitting false documents to courts.

These affidavits, however, should return law enforcement to the case. William Wilson, the case management supervisor, alleges in his statement that this “ridiculous and immoral” conduct continued through August of 2012, when he was eventually fired for speaking up. That means Bank of America persisted with these activities for at least six months AFTER the main, $25 billion settlement to which they were a party. So state and federal regulators could sue Bank of America over this new criminal conduct, which post-dates the actions for which they released liability under the main settlement. Attorneys general in New York and Florida have accused Bank of America of violating the terms of the settlement, but they could simply open new cases about these new deceptive practices.

They would have no shortage of evidence, in addition to the sworn affidavits. According to Theresa Terrelonge, most loan-level representatives conducted their business through email; in fact, various email communications have already been submitted under seal in the Massachusetts civil case. State Attorneys General or US Attorneys would have subpoena power to gather many more emails.

And they would have very specific targets: the ex-employees listed specific executives by name who authorized and directed the fraudulent process. “The delay and rejection programs were methodically carried out under the overall direction of Patrick Kerry, a Vice President who oversaw the entire eastern region’s loan modification process,” wrote William Wilson. Other executives mentioned by name include John Berens, Patricia Feltch and Rebecca Mairone (now at JPMorgan Chase, and already named in a separate financial fraud case). These are senior executives who, if this alleged conduct is true, should face criminal liability.

Bank accountability activists have already seized on the revelations. “This is not surprising, but absolutely sickening,” said Peggy Mears, organizer for the Home Defenders League. “Maybe finally our courts and elected officials will stand with communities over Wall Street and prosecute, and then lock up, these criminals.”

Sadly, it’s hard to raise hopes of that happening. Past experience shows that our top regulatory and law enforcement officials are primarily interested in covering for Wall Street’s crimes. These well-sourced allegations amount to an accusation of Bank of America stealing thousands of homes, and lying to the government about it. Homeowners who did everything asked of them were nevertheless pushed into foreclosure, all to fortify profits on Wall Street. There’s a clear path to punish Bank of America for this conduct. If it doesn’t result in prosecutions, it will once again confirm the sorry excuse for justice we have in America.

According to scientists, sugar is the greatest single threat to health

Experts say that the white stuff contributes to 35 million deaths each year

Today it is found in everything from bread to wine and savory sauces

  Along with causing obesity and diabetes, it also wreaks havoc on the skin

My name is Polly and I’m a sugar addict. When I’m tired, upset or hormonal I reach for a chocolate bar, biscuit or cupcake. I add sugar to my coffee and tea and stir honey into my porridge every morning.

I've had a sweet tooth since childhood and, until now, I didn't think it was a major problem. I like desserts — so what?
But a growing number of scientists believe sugar is the greatest single threat to human health, contributing to 35  million deaths worldwide each year.

They say it not only causes illnesses including obesity, type-2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer and liver problems, but also wreaks havoc on our skin and ages us prematurely.
It has even been linked to fertility problems in women and increases the risk of dementia and rheumatoid arthritis. Crikey.

Luckily, I’m neither overweight nor unhealthy, so I figure I don’t need sweet rehab quite yet — or do I?
Last month it was revealed the average Briton consumes 238 teaspoons of added sugar every week — an all-time high. Surely to eat that much you’d have to munch on Mars bars while drinking liters of Coke and stuffing your face with Jelly Babies?
But when I work out my daily sugar consumption I’m surprised: 85 teaspoons a week is less than half the national average but it’s still 425g — almost half a normal bag of sugar — a week.
Even more disturbing was how much of it came from what experts call ‘invisible sugar’. This is sneaked into savory foods including bread, pasta sauces and even bacon by manufacturers to make them tastier.
A Which? report found some savory foods contain more sugar than ice cream. So while sales of raw sugar have fallen over the past 50 years, there has been a threefold increase in the amount of sugar we consume and ‘invisible sugar’ is mainly to blame.

'Food manufacturers have a lot to answer for,' says nutritionist Dr Sam Christie. 'Over the past 30 years, they've doubled the amount of sugar they add to their products and our bodies haven’t adapted.
'We absorb sugar very quickly, which causes our pancreas to produce insulin in order for our cells to turn the sugar into energy. If we eat a lot of sugar, over time our cells become insulin resistant and we develop type-2 diabetes.
'We also become overweight. Glucose is delivered to the liver, and when the liver’s reserves are full, a biochemical process converts it into fat.'

So time for a detox: a month without any added sugar. Cutting out the white stuff en masse is what the growing 'No Sugar' movement is all about.

Its chief proponent, endocrinologist Robert Lustig, whose lecture Sugar: The Bitter Truth, has been viewed more than three million times on YouTube, claims sugar, rather than fat, is to blame for our sky-rocketing obesity levels. This could explain how we've become so much fatter despite consuming fewer calories than we used to.
The average energy intake per person was 28 per cent lower in 2010 than in 1974.

'Even for people who aren't at risk of diabetes or obesity, eating less sugar is greatly beneficial,' says Dr Christie.

'Unrefined food contains more nutrients to protect our health, fewer empty calories, and allows us to avoid peaks and troughs in blood sugar, keeping our moods and energy levels stable.'
Only when giving up sugar did I realize that I was far more dependent on it than I’d assumed. And when I began to research its impact, I realized why. Sugar cravings are real. French scientists have reported in animal trials that rats chose sugar over cocaine.

The good news is it’s possible to reverse the impact of a sweet tooth by replacing it with natural foods including wholegrain, vegetables and fish, which contain nutrients to replenish our stores of insulin.

My first challenge was finding sugarless foods to eat. I love toast, but the packet of my usual Hovis granary loaf showed it contained 1.6g of sugar per slice. And that’s before I’d added my preferred spread, peanut butter, which has almost 1g of sugar in 10g.

The honey I use to sweeten my porridge had to go, as did the teaspoon of sugar I usually add to my morning cup of tea. Breakfast tasted the way I imagine Oliver Twist’s workhouse gruel would have.

After a couple of mouthfuls of undrinkable bitter tea, I realized I’d have to give up caffeine, too. It wasn't a great start.
Lunch was similarly difficult. Without bread, options were severely limited, so I opted for a salad, only to find I was hungry again a couple of hours later.
Unable to snack on chocolate or crisps (they also contain sugar) I ate a handful of cashew nuts to boost my blood-sugar levels.

For dinner, I eschewed my usual pasta (the Sacla sauce I use contains a whopping 6.6g of sugar) and cooked salmon and vegetables. I felt virtuous, but slightly annoyed.
My biggest challenge was alcohol. I love wine and rarely have a day without at least a couple of glasses, but a glass of my favorite sauvignon blanc contains 6.4g of sugar. Red wine is better sugar-wise, but I opted for gin and slimline tonic when I met a friend for drinks.

As I reluctantly refused to share a bottle of wine with her, she said: 'You won’t be much fun this month, will you?' I couldn't disagree.
On my third no-sugar day, I felt awful. Cheery colleagues irritated me and I snapped at someone for offering me a cup of tea. I felt exhausted, teary and had the shakes. In short I was detoxing.

When Princeton University scientists fed rats sugar as well as their regular food, then stopped it, the rats — like me — showed signs typical of drug addicts.
How terrifying that something we eat every day can cause such severe withdrawal symptoms.
Later that week, when my blood sugar levels had evened out and I felt less jittery, I absent-mindlessly stuffed a miniature brownie into my mouth when offered it by a colleague.
I used to love them, but it tasted strangely synthetic — and sweeter than a bowl of sugar cubes. For the first time I was pleased I’d started to retrain my taste buds.
By the second week, I had less frequent spikes in my energy-levels, too. I was cooking more from scratch to avoid too much ‘invisible sugar’ and my skin was clearer.

'Sugar attaches to fats and proteins in the cells in a process called glycation,' explained Dr Christie.
'The proteins in skin most prone to glycation are the same ones that make the skin plump and springy — collagen and elastin. Sugar attacks them and makes the skin less radiant and more wrinkly and saggy.'
I also started to taste the natural sweetness in fruit such as strawberries — previously I automatically added more sugar.
The following week, I noticed I’d lost a couple of pounds and my cravings for chocolate had vanished. I still hadn't trained myself to drink tea and coffee without sugar, but I was surprised by how quickly I got used to porridge without honey.
At lunch, I opted for sushi and salads and ate plain yogurt, adding my own berries rather than buying sugar-laden fruit flavors.

By the end of the month, I felt more energized and alive, probably because I was no longer trapped in a cycle of blood sugar peaks and troughs. I felt calmer and less prone to mood swings.
So I’ll continue trying to avoid sugary food where possible. After a month without cakes and chocolate, what would be the point of reminding my taste buds how delicious I’d once found them?

The Society of Jesus, more commonly referred to as the Jesuits, are the armed militia of the Roman Catholic Church.  They were sanctioned in 1540 by Pope Paul III with one mandate: to defeat Protestantism and regain global Papal rule.  To achieve this monumental task, they employ ever-adapting methods of pseudo-education, social programs, infiltration, and all wickedness that could possibly be conceived.  Needless to say, they are achieving great success in their mission, which is climaxing with the present pope, Pope Francis, i.e.  the Eighth and last Pope of Revelation 17, who held some of the highest positions in Argentina, including Provincial Superior in the Society of Jesus and Archbishop of Buenos Aires.   He was made a cardinal by Pope John Paul II.

Today most of the world is oblivious as to how Jesuits operate, from their inception to this very day.  Now more than ever, World’s Last Chance believes it is exceedingly important to bring up the following historical facts about this evil society, to expose the wicked nature of this truly malevolent order.

Fact #1

Pope Clement XIV abolished the Jesuits as a society in 1773:

It did not take long for the 18^th Century Catholic nations to get tired of the meddling of the Jesuits into their national affairs.   They were so infuriated against the Jesuits that they demanded the Roman Catholic Church abolish them once and for all.  Sufficient political pressure was brought to bear on Pope Clement XIII.  However, he passed away before he could do anything about it.  The task of abolishing the Society of Jesus then fell on his successor, Clement XIV.  As Clement XIV signed the decree abolishing the Jesuit Order he said, “I have signed my death warrant,…” Within nine months he was dead.  [Many contemporaries considered his death a case of poisoning, and suspected the Jesuits were responsible].

No other entity on Earth was expelled and suppressed by Catholic and non-Catholic countries as the Jesuits:

Obviously the Jesuits were not expelled from many nations (even Catholic nations) because of their educational or charity work.  They were expelled for engaging in and carrying out subversive political plots against humanity to advance their own cause.

"Between 1555 and 1931 the Society of Jesus [i.e., the Jesuit Order] was expelled from at least 83 countries, city states and cities, for engaging in political intrigue and subversion plots against the welfare of the State, according to the records of a Jesuit priest of repute [i.e., Thomas J.  Campbell].  Practically every instance of expulsion was for political intrigue, political infiltration, political subversion, and inciting to political insurrection."

The Jesuits are known for their deception, spying, infiltration, assassination, and revolution.  They worked deep into the political field and plotted through politics throughout the world countries.

Above all I have learned from the Jesuits.   And so did Lenin too, "far as I recall.  The world has never known anything quite so splendid as the hierarchical structure of the Catholic Church.  There were quite a few things I simply appropriated from the Jesuits for the use of the Party.

Franz von Papen, another powerful Nazi, who was instrumental in setting up the concordat between Germany and the Vatican had this to say: "The Third Reich is the first world power which not only acknowledges but also puts into practice the high principles of the papacy."

Over the last 400 years the Jesuits have succeeded in establishing the largest worldwide network of schools and universities.

These prominent schools and universities, have produced many well known alumni.  Thus, the Jesuits have been able to shape and mould the thinking of many famous world leaders, and produce generations of political and religious leaders who were favorable to the Roman Catholic Church, and her doctrinal agenda.

The renowned British preacher, Charles Haddon Spurgeon, once warned about the church ministers who are graduating from these universities that “… they keep back a portion of the gospel … having studied in the devil’s new Jesuitical college.”

Agents of the Jesuits have been responsible for assassinating many heads of State over the centuries:

Heads of states were assassinated by the Jesuits, when they attempt to suppress the influence and meddling of the Jesuits in their national affairs.  Of heads of states that are known to have been assassinated by Jesuits we mention for example: William of Orange, Kings Henry III and Henry IV of France, Czars Alexander I and Alexander II of Russia, President Abraham Lincoln and John F.  Kennedy, and Mexican President Benito Pablo Juarez.

Abraham Lincoln was fully aware of the evil nature of the Jesuits.  He stated, “...  it is not against the Americans of the South, alone, I am fighting.  It is more against the Pope of Rome, his perfidious Jesuits and their blind and blood-thirsty slaves that we have to defend ourselves.”

President John F. Kennedy was another victim of appalling Jesuit wickedness.  Once he outwardly distanced himself from the Papal agenda and stood for more liberal ideals and human rights, he was considered, by their standards, a traitor to the Vatican and a “tyrant” worthy of death.

Later, in 1964, for the first time in history, the Pope of Rome set foot in Fourteenth Amendment America. Cardinal Spellman had performed well and was rewarded by a visit from his Master, fellow Cold Warrior and Vatican Ratline handler, Cardinal Montini, who was now Pope Paul VI.  There is yet another reason for the removal of President Kennedy. He wanted to arm Israel. Loftus writes:

It was the first arms sale by the U.S. Government to Israel....      And why did the Vatican’s Jesuits not want any arms sales to Israel at this time? Why did the Jesuit-controlled President Johnson turn his back as the Egyptian army moved up through the Sinai desert to prepare its assault on Israel in 1967? Because the attack upon Israel had to be provoked. That attack was provoked by the Jesuits’ International Intelligence Community through Egypt falsely perceiving the weakness of the Israeli army and the supposed abandonment of Israel by the American Empire.  The six-day war, engineered by Knight of Malta James Angleton, had one primary purpose: the taking of Jerusalem along with the Temple Mount. The apparent lack of military hardware on the part of Israel provoked the planned attack by Egypt. Therefore, Israel launched a preemptive strike and, in six days, the holy city was in the hands of Rome’s Zionist government.

Had Kennedy armed Israel, the Egyptians would never have been emboldened to maneuver for war. With no provoked war, there would have been no Israeli attack. With no Israeli attack, Jerusalem would never have been taken by the Zionists, controlled by the Jesuits’ Mossad.  With Jerusalem in Arab hands, the Zionists could never rebuild Solomon’s Temple—unbeknown to them—for the Jesuits’ “infallible” Pope,

One might assume that this emotive painting would hang somewhere in Dallas, Texas or perhaps in the Smithsonian.  And one would be wrong on both counts.  This painting of President John F. Kennedy's gruesome assassination, by Mark Balma, hangs in the Vatican Cathedral of St. Paul.  The painting is entitled “Pietà” after Michelangelo’s famous sculpture of Mary holding the body of the crucified Christ, which is also located at the Vatican.  Isn’t this a macabre way to “celebrate” the life of perhaps America’s most beloved President? or is this rather an homage to the Jesuit agenda, serving as a stern warning/reminder to those willing to cross them?

After Pope Pius VII was freed from exile in 1814, his first order of business upon returning to Rome was to restore the Jesuit order

The papacy suffered great humiliation at the hand of Napoleon.  Thus, right after the defeat of Napoleon in 1814, Pope Pius VII was freed from imprisonment and was returned to Rome.  The need to restore the Jesuit militia became an urgent matter.  Rome did not want to be deprived again of the services of the Jesuits, no matter how burdensome this service was to the Church of Rome, and its allies.

The Jesuit Order took over the Office of Inquisition shortly after it was sanctioned and this led to the martyrdom of millions of saints

In 1254 Pope Alexander IV established the Office of the Inquisition.  The first inquisitor was Dominic, who was the founder of the Dominican order of monks.

However, shortly after Pope Paul III sanctioned the Society of Jesus, the Office of Inquisition was revived and the Pope gave free reign to the Jesuits to run this office, and the inquisitor Generals were granted exceptional powers in carrying out their mandate to root out of all “heretics.” This caused the martyrdom of millions of saints.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day? The government is likely logging even the most mundane day-to-day computer habits of millions of Americans, but there’s a way to stand up against surveillance while also rocking out.

According to leaked NSA documents published by The Guardian last week, the United States National Security Agency is conducting dragnet surveillance of the communications of Americans, regularly receiving phone records for millions of Verizon customers while also being capable of accessing the conversations that occur over Facebook, Google and several other major Internet names through a program called PRISM. Now a 28-year-old artist and developer from Brooklyn, New York has found a fun way of warning computer users about potential government surveillance, and he’s incorporated one of the best-selling rock albums ever in the process.

Justin Blinder released a plugin for the Web browser Firefox this week, and he’s already seeing a positive response in the press if not just based off of the idea alone. His “The Dark Side of the Prism” browser extension alerts Web surfers of possible surveillance by starting up a different song from Pink Floyd’s 1973 classic “The Dark Side of the Moon” each time a questionable site is crossed.

Blinder told the Guardian that he built the program over the course of four hours with the hopes he could "create some sort of ambient notification that you are on a site that is being surveiled by the NSA."

"I was really interested in the fact that, although the PRISM leaks were a shock to many of us, we pretty much already kind of know we're being surveiled a lot of the time and giving away so much data," he said.

Upon news of the phone tracking program, even members of Congress said they couldn’t get over how much information was being shared between the telecoms and the government. Walking out of a briefing this Wednesday, Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-California) said, "What we learned in there is significantly more than what is out in the media today,” and described her reaction as “astounded.” Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) said the program “represents an outrageous abuse of power and a violation of the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution,” and the American Civil Liberties Union has sued the government with a similar complaint filed in federal court.

Separate from leaking a document about the NSA’s access to phone records, former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden also gave The Guardian evidence of Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Yahoo, AOL and others sharing private communications of customers with the government. When “The Dark Side of the Prism” is installed, users of those sites will be reminded with one of the most iconic albums of the twentieth century.

"I just Googled 'Prism' and the cover came up," Blinder said. It just so happened that the long-time best-seller also fits the mood for exactly what the programmer was looking for.

"I didn’t want it to be too jarring because a lot of us seem to be giving in to being surveiled on a daily basis. I feel like people already know that. I didn't want it to be alarming,” he said.

“The Dark Side of the Moon” was Pink Floyd’s eighth studio album and most commercially successfully, selling roughly 50 million copies and landing on the Billboard charts for 741 consecutive weeks. Surveillance, on the other hand, isn’t quite as popular: according to a Post/Washington Post poll released this week, 52 percent of Americans oppose the PRISM program.

With regards to Snowden, the American public is largely polarized on the issue. He’s been labeled as both a traitor and whistleblower and is currently the target of a Department of Justice investigation.

“He’s not a whistleblower, by the way, because a whistleblower actually wants the rule of law to be enforced,” Jeremy Bash, the former chief of staff for then-CIA Director Leon Panetta, told Politics Confidential this week. “He copied documents and he made a run for it. He may be actually aiding our enemies.”

On his part, Snowden said he leaked the documents because, “I can't in good conscience allow the US government to destroy privacy, Internet freedom and basic liberties for people around the world with this massive surveillance machine they're secretly building.”

Earlier this year, Pink Floyd lyricist Roger Waters lent his support to Army Private first class Bradley Manning, who is currently on trial for the largest intelligence leak in US history.

“We need more whistl blowers,” Waters wrote in a statement. “Blowing the whistle on our behalf is not just brave, it is heroic and it is our duty.”

Following whistleblower Edward Snowden’s leaks of National Security Agency documents pointing to mass online surveillance, both Facebook and Microsoft have released details on the number of legal orders made to them by the NSA.

Only a few days after revelations of the surveillance program known as PRISM, which alleged major companies such as the social networking giant Facebook and software maker Microsoft, as well as others, had provided the NSA direct access to their server data, both companies released statements denying such involvement.

On Friday both Microsoft and Facebook released more information regarding requests made by federal, state and local police in an effort to reassure users. The new information provided by Facebook and Microsoft detail the number of legal orders they received to disclose user data.

According to Microsoft, in the last six months of 2012 it received between 6,000 and 7,000 criminal and national security warrants, subpoenas and orders affecting between 31,000 and 32,000 consumer accounts.

Facebook, meanwhile, has divulged a similar number of requests during the same period of time.

“For the six months ending December 31, 2012, the total number of user-data requests Facebook received from any and all government entities in the U.S. (including local, state, and federal, and including criminal and national security-related requests) - was between 9,000 and 10,000. These requests run the gamut - from things like a local sheriff trying to find a missing child, to a federal marshal tracking a fugitive, to a police department investigating an assault, to a national security official investigating a terrorist threat. The total number of Facebook user accounts for which data was requested pursuant to the entirety of those 9-10 thousand requests was between 18,000 and 19,000 accounts,” said Facebook.

According to Facebook, then, the number of data requests made by law enforcement and intelligence services represent a “tiny fraction of one percent of our user accounts.”

Along with other implicated companies, such as Yahoo and Google, Microsoft and Facebook sought greater leeway from the government to disclose information regarding secret court orders compelling them to hand over user data, ostensibly in the interests of national security.

According to James Clapper, head of US national intelligence, Internet companies implicated under the PRISM program were receiving legal orders sent to them "pursuant to Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act." In theory, judges must evaluate whether a request is "reasonably designed" to exclude Americans.

Without exception all of the companies tied to the PRISM leak maintained that they were only complying with orders made under the FISA Amendments Act, which established certain limits placed on a Bush-era warrantless surveillance following that scandal. Of course, critics argue that such courts are hand-picked and merely rubber-stamp requests that enable mass surveillance.

One such critic, retired US District Judge Nancy Gertner, told a panel discussion on constitutional privacy protection on Friday that the selection process for federal judges serving on such secret courts is extremely biased.

“It’s an anointment process. It’s not a selection process. But you know, it’s not boat rockers. So you have a [federal] bench which is way more conservative than before. This is a subset of that. And it’s a subset of that who are operating under privacy, confidentiality, and national security. To suggest that there is meaningful review it seems to me is an illusion,” says Gertner.

A former Microsoft executive plans to create the first U.S. national marijuana brand, with cannabis he hopes to eventually import legally fromMexico, and said he was kicking off his business by acquiring medical pot dispensaries in three U.S. states.Jamen Shively, a former Microsoft corporate strategy manager, said he envisions his Seattle-based enterprise becoming the leader in both recreational and medical cannabis - much like Starbucks is the dominant name in coffee, he said.

Shively, 45, whose six years at Microsoft ended in 2009, said he was soliciting investors for $10 million in start-up money.
The use, sale and possession of marijuana remains illegal in the United States under federal law. Two U.S. states have, however, legalized recreational marijuana use and are among 18 states that allow it for medical use.
"It's a giant market in search of a brand," Shively said of the marijuana industry. "We would be happy if we get 40 percent of it worldwide."

Washington state and Colorado became the first two U.S. states to legalize recreational marijuana when voters approved legalization in November.
Shively laid out his plans, along with his vision for a future in which marijuana will be imported from Mexico, at a Thursday news conference in downtown Seattle.
Joining him was former Mexican President Vicente Fox, a longtime Shively acquaintance who has been an advocate of decriminalizing marijuana. Fox said he was there to show his support for Shively's company but has no financial stake in it.

"What a difference it makes to have Jamen here sitting at my side instead of Chapo Guzman," said Fox, referring to the fact he would rather see Shively selling marijuana legally than the Mexican drug kingpin selling it illegally. "This is the story that has begun to be written here."
Shively told Reuters he hoped Fox would serve an advisory role in his enterprise, dubbed Diego Pellicer after Shively's hemp-producing great grandfather.
The sale of cannabis or marijuana remains illegal in much of the world although countries mainly in Europe and the Americas have decriminalized the possession of small quantities of it. A larger number of countries have decriminalized or legalized cannabis for medical use.

SKEPTICISM
Shively acknowledges that his business plans conflict with U.S. federal law and are complicated by regulations in both Washington state and Colorado. He said he is interested in buying dispensaries that comply with local and state rules and are less likely to attract the scrutiny of authorities.
"If they want to come talk to me, I'll be delighted to meet with them," he said of federal officials. "I'll tell them everything that we're doing and show them all our books."

Washington state's marijuana consultant, Mark Kleiman, said he was skeptical of Shively's plans, and feared that the businessman is seeking to profit off others' addiction.
"It's very hard for me to understand why anybody seriously interested in being in the marijuana business, which after all is against the federal law, would so publicly announce his conspiracy to break that law," said Kleiman, a professor of public policy at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Emily Langlie, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Seattle, referred questions to the Department of Justice headquarters. Department officials did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
Washington state Representative Reuven Carlyle, a Seattle Democrat, sees promise in Shively's initiative. Any industry emerging from the shadows will inevitably undergo consolidation - and thereby simplify the task of regulators, he said.
"The fact that an entrepreneur is publicly pushing the envelope around a branding and value-based pricing opportunity, I would say that's in the water in Seattle," said Carlyle, chairman of the House Finance Committee. "That's in our DNA ... We could have predicted that as much as the rain."

Shively said he has already acquired the rights to the Northwest Patient Resource Center, a medical marijuana operation that includes two Seattle store fronts. He added that he was close to acquiring another dispensary in Colorado, as well as two more each in Washington state and California, with the owners given the option to retain a stake in their businesses.

"We've created the first risk-mitigated vehicles for investing directly in this business opportunity," he said.
Shively said he ultimately plans to create separate medical and recreational-use marijuana brands. Shively said he also plans to launch a study of the effectiveness of concentrated cannabis oil in the treatment of cancer and other illnesses.

The young professionals who believe their best chance at trying to save the world is by joining  Wall Street and making millions.

Some young people believe that working on Wall Street and living modesty - and donating the rest - will allow them to do the most good.

Jason Trigg, a software programmer at a financial firm, donates to a malaria charity that says it can save a life for every $2,500 it receives.

Charities like GiveWell and 8,000 Hours help civic-minded young people make choices about their lives and careers that will help the most people

Nearly all charities focus on helping the developing world, where a few U.S. dollars can go a long way

Jason Trigg, a 26-year-old software programmer, graduated with top honors from the vaunted Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His education and skills mean he could work nearly anywhere.

He chooses to work on Wall Street, earning six figures designing software for a high-frequency trading firm. There, his earning potential is all but unlimited.

Trigg's life goal is to earn as much money as he possibly can, but it's not so he can buy expensive cars, luxury homes and designer clothing.

He wants to save the world and he believes that the more money he makes, the more good he can do.

The Washington Post reports that last year, he gave half his salary - tens of thousands of dollars - away to the Against Malaria Foundation. The charity estimates that $2,500 can save one life.

By that calculus, Trigg figures he can save more lives earning a vast salary in finance that he could if he dedicated his life to public service.

He's not alone. A core of idealistic young professionals have joined Wall Street banks, hedge funds, and major tech companies that pay large salaries, all with the idea that their best chance of making the world a better place is earning as much money as possible - and then putting that money to good use.

'A lot of people, they want to make a difference and end up in the Peace Corps and in the developing world without running water,' Trigg told the Post.

'I can donate some of my time in the office and make more of a difference.'

Despite Trigg's high-paying job, he lives with three roommates and walks to work every day. He tries to live as conservatively as possible.

'I wouldn't know how to spend a large amount of money,' he says.

Charities like GiveWell and 8,000 Hours - a reference to the number of working hours in a career - have been established to help civic-minded young people make choices about their lives and careers that will help the most people.

Nearly all of the charities focus on improving health conditions in the developing world - since money sent to poor countries can go much farther than any donations made to help Americans.

'You can pay to provide and train a guide dog for a blind American, which costs about $40,000,' Matt Wage, a Princeton graduate who works in finance, told the Washington Post.

'But with that money you could also cure between 400 and 2,000 people in developing countries of blindness from glaucoma, which costs about $20 per person.'
Wage says he gives about half of his incomes to charities that work in Africa and Asia.
Jeff Kaufman, who works as a programmer for Google, tells the Post that he and his wife lived on $10,000 last year. They allowed themselves just $165 a month for groceries and a mere $38 a week each of non-essential spending, including eating out. Together they gave away 45 percent of their income.

The authors of this powerful new review wrote: “It is not reasonable to assume that manipulation of the immune system through an increasing number of vaccinations during critical periods of brain development will not result in adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes.” Here’s what they found.

A new scientific review from Poland discusses irreparable harm done by vaccines. This review addresses the issue in terms of adverse effects, immune system effects, neurological symptoms following vaccination, and a history of vaccines demonstrating little benefit. It centers mostly on studies not often referenced in the western world, providing fresh and broad-ranging information. An honest reading of the study can leave little doubt that harm done may be extensive and often permanent.

Adverse Effects

Different systems of defining types of vaccination adverse events include dividing between immune system and nonimmune system, or classifying according to whether they’re local, general, shortly after vaccination, or develop more slowly. Regardless of how they’re distinguished, the authors state:

Reports in many Polish and foreign medical journals lead us to conclude that postvaccinal complications among children can be observed in sporadic cases and that they are disproportionate to the benefits of vaccination in the elimination of dangerous diseases in childhood.

Their study leaves little doubt that vaccines produce serious risks that are entirely out of line with any benefits gained.

They first point out that several adverse effects that occur shortly after vaccination are acknowledged by Polish law. These include:

• Local reactions, including:
  • local reactions after the BCG (tuberculosis) vaccine
  • swelling
  • lymphadenopathy
  • abscess at the injection site

• Postvaccinal adverse events of the central nervous system:
  • encephalopathy
  • febrile convulsions
  • non-febrile convulsions
  • paralytic poliomyelitis caused by vaccine virus
  • encephalitis
  • meningitis
  • Guillain-Barré syndrome
• Other adverse events following immunization:
  • joint pain
  • hypotonic-hyporesponsive episode
  • fever above 39°C
  • thrombocytopenia
  • continuous inconsolable crying

Likely major post-vaccine neurological complications, which usually ensue more than 48 hours after vaccination, tend to be permanent nerve damage to the central nervous system, including seizures (especially if there is no increase in body temperature), hypotonic-hyporesponsive episodes, postvaccinal encephalitis, postvaccinal encephalopathy, and autism.

Immune System Effects

A neonate’s immune system does not function in the same manner as an adult’s, and it does not reach maturity until about age 3 years. The neonate’s humoral immune system—the part that functions through antibodies—comes directly from the mother. Associated with the immunoglobulin IgG that’s provided by the mother, it starts about 6 months before birth, and disappears by about 6 months after birth.

Autonomously-produced antibodies are called immunoglobulins. While the fetus starts to develop some immunoglobulin before birth, it takes time, in most instances more than a year, to reach maturity. The graph to the right shows the pace at which IgG from the mother increases and decreases, and the rate at which a neonate starts to produce its own, plus IgM, IgA, and IgD.

Because of a neonate’s existing antibodies from the mother, vaccination against some microorganisms simply does not provide any lasting protection for newborns. The authors state:

It is well established that early-life immune responses are weaker and of shorter duration than elicited in immunologically mature hosts. Consequently, vaccine efficacy in early infancy (particularly in the first 6 months of age) is limited.

They go on to state that:

[E]xperimental evidence clearly shows, that simultaneous administration of as little as two to three immune adjuvants, or repeated stimulation of the immune system by the same antigen can overcome genetic resistance to autoimmunity.

The common practice of administering more than one adjuvant at a time or repeatedly injecting the same antigen can produce autoimmune disorders.

They further point out that the toxicity of adjuvants can produce a range of adverse reactions.

The manner in which the body responds to vaccines is not well understood. It is, though, believed that the Th1 pathway is sacrificed in favor of the Th2 pathway. This is believed to lead to development of allergies in infants. Allergy, a life-threatening condition that was once rare, is now known to exist in at least 35%, possibly as many as 40%, of children. It has become one of the most serious health concerns in Europe.

The authors cite a study documenting that a natural chicken pox infection protects against asthma and atopic dermatitis in children, but the vaccine does not.

They state that:

[A]nnual vaccination against influenza has been shown to hamper the development of virus-specific CD8⁺T-cell immunity in children.

And then point out:

[I]t appears that the necessary Th1/Th2 balance is better provided by natural challenges (i.e., in a form of relatively benign childhood diseases such as chickenpox and mumps) rather than vaccination.
Recent research by Singh of the International Institute for Brain Research in the USA confirm the veracity of this statement. In the study, serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were analyzed in terms of viral and autoimmune markers in patients with autism compared with a group of healthy children.

The table below, which the authors reprinted from the Singh study, shows differences in antibody levels they found between normal and autistic children. Notice that autistic children have a significantly higher vaccine measles virus antibody load than normal children, though the differences in mumps and rubella antibodies does not reach a significant level, and the high p-values for them bear that out.

A p-value approaching 1.0 indicates that the results could readily have been reached accidentally. (Note: HHV-6 refers to human herpes virus-6.)

Singh et al also found significantly elevated levels of the IL-2, IL-12, and IFN-γ cytokines, indicators of an elevated inflammatory response, along with acute phase proteins, also indicative of inflammation.

These raised inflammation profiles are significant because subtle changes in the developing brains of autistic children have been found to be caused by autoimmune reactions leading to changes in the myelin sheath (a protective layer around nerves). This could lead to impairment in the brains of autistic children, resulting in problems with speech, communication, social action, and other neurological problems.

Partial Conclusion

At this point in their review, the authors point out that vaccines, which are used to “train” the immune system, lower its threshold of defense responses against development of infectious diseases. This leads to questions, including:

• How can the immature, still developing immune and central nervous systems of a healthy child respond to such intense stimulation?
• Can these immature systems respond with the same protective effect to so many different stimuli?
• Do multi-antigen vaccine side effects change as compared to single-antigen vaccinations, and if so, how?

They go on to state:

[A] burgeoning body of evidence shows that immune molecules play integral roles in CNS development, affecting processes such as neurogenesis, neuronal migration, axon guidance, synaptic connectivity and synaptic plasticity. Despite the dogma that peripheral immune responses do not affect CNS function, substantial evidence points exactly to the contrary. Thus, it is not reasonable to assume that manipulation of the immune system through an increasing number of vaccinations during critical periods of brain development will not result in adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes.

“[I]t is not reasonable to assume that manipulation of the immune system through an increasing number of vaccinations during critical periods of brain development will not result in adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes.”

Clearly, these authors are stating that vaccines carry the potential to do tremendous harm.

These are the first two sections of the powerful Sienkiewicz, Kulak, Okurowska-Zawada, and Paszko-Patej review. Russia is not convinced by the evidence which the US provided alleging that the government of Syria’s President Bashar Assad used chemical weapons against rebel forces.

“The Americans tried to present us with information on the use of chemical weapons by the regime, but frankly we thought that it was not convincing,” said presidential aide Yury Ushakov on Friday.

“We wouldn’t like to invoke references to the famous lab tube that [former US] Secretary of State [Colin] Powell showed, but the facts don’t look convincing in our eyes,” he added.

Powell brought a model vial, which he said looked like Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein’s weaponized anthrax, in a bid to convince members of the UN Security Council that they should agree to invade Iraq. The alleged weapons of mass destruction program proved to be non-existent after the US conquered the country in 2003.

Ushakov was commenting on the US decision to allow military aid to Syrian rebels after coming to the conclusion that Assad’s government had used its chemical weapons stockpile in the conflict.

Ushakov said Moscow sees difficulties with organizing a proper investigation into the alleged cases of chemical weapon attacks in Syrian territory, which would provide more conclusive evidence on the issue.

“We have tried on several occasions to organize it, including those occasions when information arrived that rebels were using chemical weapons. Let’s see how the situation develops,”he said.

The UN probe into the use of chemical weapons in Syria did not travel to the sites of the alleged attacks because Damascus barred the experts from going there. Syrian officials cited concerns for the safety of the experts and voiced doubts about their impartiality, since neither China nor Russia were allowed to participate.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stressed that arming rebels is a step fraught with possible “escalation in the region” while allegations of the use of chemical weapons “are not supported by reliable evidence”.

Moscow has warned that additional supplies to Syrian rebels will not contribute to the peace process, but on the contrary will plunge the country into chaos.

“There is little doubt that decisions on additional arms and military equipment supplies to illegal militant groups would drive up the level of violent confrontation and violence against innocent civilians. Especially, given that it comes amid calls to go further, to establish a no-fly zone over Syria to help not with just weapons, but heavy weapons,”Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aleksandr Lukashevich said.

The American move undermines the joint US-Russian effort to gather an international conference in Geneva on Syrian reconciliation, Ushakov added, although the exact damage will depend on Washington’s further actions.

“Of course, this will not help in the preparation of the international conference, if the Americans actually initiate larger-scale support of the rebels", he said.

The next meeting of experts to discuss the event is scheduled for June 25. The conference has been postponed several times as the organizers are struggling to convince all interested parties to take part.

The aide added that the news will not affect Russia’s position on delivering S-300 surface-to-air missiles to the Syrian government. Moscow has a years-long standing contract with Damascus to supply the advanced air defense system, but has not fulfilled it yet.

Russia’s contract with Syria may have a serious impact on the balance of military power in the region. One of the more radical scenarios of the US providing military aid to the rebels is establishment of non-fly zones in Syria along its border with Jordan. The territory would then be used by rebel forces to rest and regroup out of reach of the Syrian Air Force.
